Dr. Juan Megna is a highly respected educator and performer, having led clinics at esteemed institutions such as Georgetown University, Déifferdenger Museksschoul (Luxembourg), The Catholic University, and the Jazz Education Network, among many others.
Dr. Megna's musical journey began in his hometown of Buenos Aires, Argentina. In 2003, he relocated to Brazil, where he earned his undergraduate degree from the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 2005. In 2015, he moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, to pursue a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. He completed his Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in 2021, with a dissertation titled "Selected Rum Drum Solos Adaptations for Drum Set." This groundbreaking work explores the Afro-Brazilian atabaque drums and their adaptations to the standard jazz drum set. Dr. Megna has been a vital educator throughout his career, most notably as the director of George Mason University's Latin American Ensemble. Under his leadership, the group won the prestigious “Outstanding Performance – Graduate College, Latin Group” award from DownBeat Magazine for three consecutive years (2018-2021), a recognition of the ensemble's excellence in the field of jazz performance.
​Currently, Dr. Megna divides his time as a demanded performer and teaching at the Catholic University of America and Marymount University.
